Community Service/Faith-related

  • Primary founder of The Connecticut Valley Hindu Temple Society, 1979
  • President, Connecticut Valley Hindu Temple Society, 1979-1981
  • Member, Inter-religious Committee for Understanding, Hartford, 1995- to date
  • Member, Interfaith Council, Glastonbury, 1997 - to date
  • Worked closely with the architect in planning the structure of a unique Hindu temple in Middletown, Connecticut
  • Represented the Hindu immigrant community before the Middletown TP&Z committee to speak in behalf of the temple project
  • Has performed religious services for over three decades in Connecticut as chief celebrant at community gatherings and later at the Middletown temple until a priest was hired.
  • Functions as Hindu priest performing a wide variety of pujas, ceremonies, weddings, house-warming, bhajans etc., 1971 to date
  • Developed format for inter-faith weddings and serves as Officiator in Vedic Weddings

Leadership

  • Officiant at the Wesleyan World Music Department's Navaratri celebrations Saraswati Puja
  • Served on the board of directors of the World Affairs Council, Hartford, CT
  • Led a panel discussion on Connecticut Public Television in 1971 during the Bangladesh war (Panel members included Mrs. Chester Bowles, Prof. Herbert Jai Singh of the Hartford Seminary, Mr. Manzur Ahmed, a Bangladeshi resident who had escaped the war and Mr. Mahmood Ali, a Vice Consul of Pakistan who had defected.)
